2013 TENDENSIES
No more superfluous! Geometrical shapes, uncluttered lines and again natural matters.
Furniture made of natural bright wood to be matched with beiges and whites.
And still always bamboo and cork on the floors!
Wooden fabric is making an entrance!
Paper for lamps and objects. Silicone, funny and cheap, as well as steel fabric and hand-woven thread.
Fabrics are grafic, psychedelic and made of authentic matters. A lot of flax!
You will mix stripes with checks, while diamond patterns come in all sizes. You will find flashy colours on tablecloths. Fabrics are often woven and not printed.
In 2012, pastel colours were on the top, while this year will see the great return of reds. A multitude of decoration objects will allow you to introduce that colour by little bits here and there. And bathrooms and kitchens won’t be forgotten.
Royal blue, as well as flashy colours, is also present. You’ll mix colours and be daring.
A tendency which is not coming to an end, with space-saving furniture, such as coffee tables dividing in two, used as magazine racks and at the same time becoming coffers; structures unfolding to become table or desk; tables that once dismounted can be hung on the wall. Furniture becomes a mural decorative element!
You can also risk the huge mirror-glasses that will light up your walls. And to replace wallpaper, mural transfers are easier to put up and take down. 3D tiles completely change the aspect of the wall.
And you shouldn’t forget the tableware which also has as a priority to save space.
Coloured plates and glasses made of acrylic and melamine come to the fore. Their designs remain very grafic.
French marble invades the kitchens with unavoidable object (such as cutting board, …). Coffee cups change colour when heated!
You will indeed not change your deco every year, but you can find ideas that will last a while!
- VINTAGE
Furniture from previous decades (a minimum of 20 years old) is coming back into vogue!
Vintage doesn’t rhyme with antiques or modern furniture (I won’t talk about the reissuing of big names. Just refer to the previous semester article).
Vintage furniture is full of colours, attractive and practical. You can find these unsigned pieces of furniture at modest prices, but you won’t find them everywhere. They can be adapted within any kind of decoration all the while bringing their history with them.
This kind of furniture is not as famous but people fight over it, make it their own and customize it!
You can find this furniture on www.chezmobilhome.com
Flea-markets, boot sales and the Compagnons d’Emmaüs still remain gold mines for bargain-hunters.
On the internet too, specialised sites offer a great amount of furniture and lamps at reasonable prices.
One can also note the full-swing arrival on this market of the major brands (such as Ikea, Alinéa or La Redoute) which rather successfully re-interpret these everyday products at reduced prices.
With this type of furniture, you can dare almost everything (often bright colours on coloured, patterned or even fake fur fabrics).
Vintage is also a nice and cheap way of decorating your children’s bedroom!
Just indulge yourselves!
